Applications for all technical subcodes can be made at our office, located at:

Building Permit Fees are in accordance with Uniform Construction Code. Technical questions should be referred to Ms. Hoffman at 609-386-0200 ext. 141.

Construction Permits | top of page

City and State codes and ordinances require all construction undertaken to apply for, acquire and display proper Permits. Permits expire if the work does not commence within one year after the date of issue. The permit shall be revoked if the work is abandoned for six months once the work begins. The permitting process can take anywhere from 5 to 20 working days. Therefore, careful attention should be paid to the planning and scheduling of work start and end dates.

Inspection Procedures | top of page

All inspections may be requested by calling 609-386-0200 ext. 141.
You will need to provide the following information when requesting an inspection:

• your name
• phone number
• worksite address
• permit number
• block and lot numbers as listed on your copy of the construction permit

You will also need to specify the type of inspection you are requesting. To avoid delays and assist processing, confirm what type of inspections are required for the work you are performing. Ask our office to go over those questions when picking up your permit.

Building Subcode Inspections:
Building Subcode Inspections are conducted M–F. When calling for inspections please remember to give 24 hours advance notice as required by the Uniform Construction Code.

Fire Subcode Inspections:
Fire Subcode Inspections are conducted M & F. When calling for inspections please remember to give 24 hours advance notice as required by the Uniform Construction Code.

Plumbing & Electric Inspections:
Plumbing & Electric Inspections are conducted M, W, and F. 24 hour advance notification is also required.

Elevator Inspections:
Elevator Inspections are to be scheduled directly with the NJ Dept. of Community Affairs, Elevator Inspections Dept. by calling 609-984-7833.

You may also refer questions to the Technical Assistant. Ms. Burns is also the Secretary to the Land Use Board (formerly Planning & Zoning) and Screening Boards, and the City of Burlington Historic Preservation Commission. All inquiries about Land Use, Zoning, Planning, Screening, and or rules and regulations of the Historic Preservation Commission can be directed to Ms. Burns. If necessary, she will direct you to notify other departments and appropriate personnel.
