FIRE PREVENTION DIVISION

The Fire Official heads the Fire Prevention Division. This Division, under the supervision of the Mayor as Director of Public Safety, performs all appropriate functions with regard to enforcement of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Safety Code within the City, including:

• Issuance of Fire Permits
• Advising Administration and Council concerning Fire Prevention
• Operation of smoke detector program for low income and senior housing
• Examination of new construction projects for Construction Division
• Enactment of Multi-family dwelling Fire Inspections for B.H..I.
• Inspection of all City businesses, rooming and boarding houses
• Investigation of all fires and explosions within City
• Issuance of Smoke Detector and CO Certificates (fee-based)

The City of Burlington Fire Prevention Bureau currently inspects over 450 registered properties.
