  • Where I can read regulations about rent increase for substandard apartments?

The City of Burlington does not have rent control in any form. This is a civil matter between the owner / landlord and renter. The tenant has rights regarding increases. These rights are exercised through the Superior Court System. If the tenant feels the property is ‘substandard’ they can argue that at the same time. Tenants who have exhausted other means yet are convinced that they are not getting satisfactory resolution of their complaints regarding repairs or maintenance of their properties from their landlords can contact our offices.

It is recommended that one read a book about landlord / tenant relations in the State of New Jersey. One such book would be ‘The Truth In Renting’ a publication of the State rules and guidelines regarding many common issues raised by tenant and landlord disputes. The book can be found at the Burlington County Court House, Landlord / Tenant Division.
