I have been trying to obtain a copy of my Birth Certicate but I have no current I.D. or identification -- is there any other way I could prove who I am?
The New Jersey Department of Motor Vehicles handles the regulation and distribution of New Jersey ID cards. You've heard of Driver's Licenses, but there is another option. New Jersey Identification Cards are issued to non-driving residents for identification purposes in lieu of a New Jersey drivers license. You can find New Jersey ID Card resources and information at New Jersey's licensing site:
http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/NonDriverID.htm
Please note that they, too, have strict requirements for proof of identity. Download their 6-point I.D. Verification guide in Acrobat PDF (103K) format at:
http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/pdf/Licenses/ident_ver_posterpint.pdf
Or, discover what documents you'll need by going through an online "test" at:
http://www.state.nj.us/mvc/Licenses/DocumentSelector/index.htm
A good place to begin establishing your identity is in the town of your birth. Many municipalities maintain Birth Records which you can get a copy of for a small fee. Hospitals may also keep records, assuming you know specifically where you were born.
Parents and guardians frequently keep birth certificates, or at least will know the place and date.
Foster children and wards of the state may get assistance in establishing identity from the state agency responsible for their situation.
