PRESS RELEASE - UPDATE

The City of Burlington Police Department is providing an update regarding the pedestrian crash that occurred on Friday, December 6, 2024 at approximately 07:20am at the intersection of Jacksonville Rd. and James St.
Tragically, the Burlington City School Crossing Guard involved in the incident has succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as Bruce Morlack, age 74 of Burlington City, NJ.
Preliminary findings indicate that Mr. Morlack was crossing two Burlington City School District students in a marked crosswalk at the intersection. Mr. Morlack heroically took action to prevent them from being injured and ensured their safety when he was struck by a 2015 Chrysler 200. The driver, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The City of Burlington expresses its condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.
The investigation is ongoing, and additional updates will be provided as they become available. I heard about this the other day I was hoping and praying that he would make it. Sending my condolences to his family . To the two students who witnessed this, he protected the both of you and sacrificed his own life. That is a true hero.

The City of Burlington Police Department is investigating a pedestrian crash that occurred this morning at approximately 7:20am at the intersection of Jacksonville Rd. and James St. The incident involved a Burlington City School Crossing Guard and a vehicle traveling southbound on Jacksonville Rd.
The crossing guard, whose identity is being withheld at this time, was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, NJ and is in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the crossing guard was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash. Investigators are reviewing camera footage and interviewing witnesses to determine the circumstances of the incident.
Our thoughts are with the individuals involved in this incident and we are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and improve safety for all road users.
